Six sigma methodology
Six sigma is a special methodology
which provide special organization tools to improve the capabilities of any
business process. It helps to increase the performance by decreasing the process
variations. However it defect deductions and helps to improve the profit, make
quality products and services and to develop the employee morale.
Six sigma has begun in 1986 Motorola
Ink in the USA. It has been based on statistical method and it was used to
reduce variations in electronic manufacturing
processes. But now it is use as a business encompassing methodology in world.
There are three key
elements of six sigma process improvement. They are,
Customers
customers are the
people who define the quality of a product. They are expecting a better
reliability, performance, on-time delivery, service, competitive price etc.so
it is important to provide facilities for a good customer feedback.
Processes
in businesses quality is define by the customer. We can understand customers’ feelings by their transaction life-cycle. This helps to understand the weak area in process of business and we can improve them.Employees
In a company
every employee should have opportunity to focus their abilities for customer satisfaction.
Also every employee must engage in sis sigma process and everyone should have a
well-defined role in business process.
When discussing about six
sigma there are two key methodologies.
- DMAIC :- this is use to improve the existing business process. It is a data-driven quality strategy for improving process.
- DMADV :- It is a data-driven quality strategy for designing processes and products. This is use to create new products and processes.
Define phase
Here we define customer
requirements, project goal and objectives, boundaries, team members etc. Also
here we develop the project charter document and SIPOC process map.
Measure phase
Measure the process
according to customer needs. Develop the plan. Compare data to identify issues
and shortfalls.
Analyse phase
Determine the variations
in the process and analyse them. There are five specific types of analyses as
source analyzing, process analyzing, data analyzing, resource and communication
analysis.
Improve phase
Improve the process to
reduce variations and we use this phase to identify improvement breakthroughs,
identify high gain alternatives, to design future state etc. Here we implement
an enhanced plan.
Control phase
Control process variations to meet customer requirements. There are four
specific aspects of control phase as quality control, standardization, control
methods and alternatives and responding when defects occur.
There are many
advantages of six sigma. It helps to increase organization’s revenue by streaming
process. That means it helps to lot of things efficiently with less time with
few resources. And also it helps to reduce costs by removing wastes from the process.
Increase the efficiency is another advantage. That means six sigma enables us
to create efficient process which helps to deliver more products and services
with customer satisfaction. Not only that, six sigma develops effective
employees by involving employees in improvement process. They become the best resources to understand how
to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business processes. Six sigma
helps in healthcare, technology, financial services too.
Now I think you would be able to take a basic idea
about six sigma.it is a methodology which use to improve the business process
with a good quality. There are key elements and main five phases in six sigma
methodology. There are many advantages of six sigma that helps to improve a
good product.
